A US Marine, who was posted to Darwin and tested positive to COVID-19 while in mandatory quarantine, is set to be released after receiving his second negative test.

The 21-year-old man tested positive to the virus on July 8 at an initial screening on arrival in Darwin.

He has spent over a month in the Royal Darwin Hospital.

According to a US Marine spokeswoman, the man received his second negative COVID-19 test today.

The Marine’s recovery means the Northern Territory now has two remaining active coronavirus cases.

“He was entered into the NT healthcare system where he was to remain until he received two negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart,” the spokeswoman said.

“MRF-D’s top priority is ensuring the health of the local community and we are thankful to our ADF counterparts and NT Health for their close co-ordination.”
