The line-up for the 2024 Aboriginal light festival, Parrtjima, has dropped with some of the biggest names in Indigenous music set to take part.
The Alice Springs festival will host Troy Cassar-Daley, Shellie Morris and Mulga Bore Hard Rock among a raft of other impressive musicians, while Cassar-Daley and Morris will also be a part of the talks program.
Minister for Major Events Brent Potter said the festival, which has a theme this year of “the importance of interconnectedness across First Nations culture”, was always a highlight of the Alice Springs events schedule.
“Each year thousands of people are drawn to the Red Centre to witness the visual masterpiece which is Parrtjima,” he said.
“Even if you’ve been to Parrtjima before, there is more on this year than ever.
“The famous Ranges Light Show which transforms the MacDonnell Ranges into a natural canvas will feature additional project space to enhance the experience.
“Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind gathering in the beautiful heart of our country, and the chance to listen to and learn from some of Australia’s top Aboriginal voices.”
New to the 10 day festival this year is Arelhe Urrperle, a large-scale puppet created by visual theatre company Erth.
Parrtjima curator Rhoda Roberts said the puppet would add to the storytelling and knowledge sharing that is Parrtjima.
“The true essence of Parrtjima has always been about sharing cultural knowledge, new expressions transforming stories from our First Nations people, and expanding the impact of Indigenous artists in the public consciousness.,” she said.
“Increased cultural expression leads to a greater understanding of First Nations heritage and experience, shaping the way rich and vibrant cultural connections are showcased for new audiences.
“The artists and talent featured at Parrtjima this year all have interesting and diverse experiences and it’s a wonderful opportunity to come together with open minds and embrace their perspectives.”
Also set to appear for the first time is a three night market that will feature produce and goods from some of the Territory’s best Aboriginal businesses.
Partjima - A Festival of Light is set to take place from April 12-21.
