FabALICE is returning to the Red Centre and this year it is celebrating a special anniversary.
The 2024 event is set to celebrate 30 years since the release of acclaimed Australian LGBTIQ+ film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
The movie tells the story of a transgender woman and two drag queens who travel from Sydney to Alice Springs in a run down old bus called Priscilla.
There will be a number of events in honour of the film and organisers are asking attendees to honour the movie by dressing “bold, glitzy and bright” at the four day event running from March 7-10.
Northern Territory Major Events CEO Suzan Bishop said the event did a great job of showcasing the diversity of the community in Alice Springs and the Territory as a whole.
“The Northern Territory is a diverse place and celebrating what makes us different brings people together,” she said.
“FabALICE shines a light on the LGBTIQ+ community and promotes understanding and inclusivity.
“FabALICE is a great example of an event that combines the uniqueness of the Territory with an iconic theme.
“Organisers have worked closely with NTMEC to find creative ways to enhance and grow the event, generating more impact for the destination.”
The event will be host to a number of ticketed and free events with ticketed highlights this year including a comedy and cabaret show with Rhonda Burchmore and Geraldine Hickey, as well as fan favourite Drag Queen Bingo.
Free and family friendly events this year will include Drag Queen Storytime and Singalong, plus a screening of the iconic movie with a drag show to follow.
FabALICE board chair Stuart Ord said a lot of work had gone into organising this year’s event.
“The FabALICE committee and dedicated volunteers have been working tirelessly to put together a festival that includes something for everyone,” he said.
“And will attract visitors from across Australia to the biggest Pride after-party in the desert.”
