Two years ago Townsville local Shane Dale connected with disability providers Trade Centre HQ and Unique Partnerships to support his passion for art.

Now, his works have become part of the Townsville Art Society at Jezzine Barracks and he has recently sold his first artwork which he said is an exciting milestone.

Attending the Townsville Art Society twice a month, Mr Dale said he loves the supportive environment and having a place to create his works of art.

Mr Dale said his abstract art can mean different things to different people.

“With my drawings you can see a lot of different things,” he said.

“I’ve done a bit of doodling and art in the past, but then in the last few years I’ve started doing some nice pieces.”

“There is an abstract one currently hanging up in the Townsville Art Society gallery, and depending how you look at it, it can be different things. I see a teddy bear, but there are lots of different colours and shapes around.”

The staff at Trade HQ said that Mr Dale’s story is a reminder of potential in every individual and the power of art and community.

Working with Trade Centre NQ, Mr Dale also restores frames for his artworks, and has completed other projects including coffee tables and spice racks.
