Concerned residents have shared photos of three burning vehicles which lit up the night sky in two Townsville suburbs overnight.
On Tuesday night, a resident who had gone to pick up her son from work at Northshore, snapped a photo of two cars burning at Mount Low’s North Shore Boulevard, near Stoney Creek.
The fire had also ignited the surrounding vegetation.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said that police had launched an investigation into the incident.
“Initial information indicates a Volkswagen Amarok and Arteon were stolen from a Garnia Lane address overnight,” the spokeswoman said.
“Both vehicles were located just after midnight.
“Investigations are continuing, anyone with information is urged to come forward.”
Early on Wednesday morning, another resident shared an image of a car burning at Bohle Plains.
The police spokeswoman confirmed that they were investigating a “suspicious vehicle fire” at Kalynda Parade.
“Emergency crews were called just before 5:30am to reports of a Holden Barina on fire,”
“Police are conducting enquiries to determine if the vehicle was stolen.
“Investigations are continuing, anyone with information is urged to come forward.”
