A Townsville family woke up to find their brand new $55,000 car had been stolen and damaged beyond repair after youths allegedly flipped it hooning at a popular soccer field.

Mount Louisa resident Tima Roberts said her family had been sound asleep when youths allegedly entered their Ellsworth Drive home and stole a brand new Ford Ranger about 2.30am on Sunday.

She said the car was found flipped on the Mundingburra soccer field on Balls Lane, Mysterton later that morning at 6.30am.

“Police told us it looked like the kids were doing doughnuts around the field and they flipped the car,” Ms Roberts said.

“We took it to the shop and they told us it’s not fixable because the structure of the car had been damaged — it was a $55,000 car we only got it four months ago,” she said.

“It’s all smashed up. The tire at the back got bent in and the oil from the motor had spread down through the bonnet when it flipped.

“We tried to open one of the doors and the whole thing nearly dropped down.

“I was really angry when it first happened. Now I’ve calmed down and tried to move on with life but I’m pretty sad because I miss my car.

“It was our only car to go to work and drop off the kids at school.

“I know we’re not the only people this has happened to. We got to do something about these kids.”

Ms Roberts said luckily their insurance company would be giving them another car to use in the meantime while everything was being sorted out.

But she said dealing with having their car stolen was still the last thing they needed with her husband diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

“He’s had MS for 12 years but still goes to work to provide for our family,” she said.

“This is the last thing we needed.

“It was a sad day for my family. All our hard earned down the drain.”

Investigations into this incident are continuing and police urge anyone with knowledge of those responsible or who witnessed it to contact police.
