Gym goers around the city have had their say and the final votes are in, as Strand Fitness claims Townsville’s best gym for the second year in a row.

Strand Fitness’s popularity has skyrocketed with gym goers since the opening of their central location two years ago, as people sign up to take advantage of their state of the art facilities, recovery areas and variety of classes on offer.

Strand Fitness General Manager, Donna Hartley, said what members love the most outside of the equipment and workouts, is the community they have created.

“There’s something for everyone and it doesn’t matter whether you’re really into fitness, or you’re injured or you just want to relax around the pool. there is literally someone for everybody,” she said.

“Townsville especially is a very transient community. We have a lot of defence forces and they move around a lot and their families move with them and they just want a like-minded place where they can come together and be part of something.”

The Strand Fitness brand is currently undertaking their biggest move yet with their expansion down south, as they continue renovations at their new Algester location in Brisbane.

“Going down to Brisbane was really scary but having said that we’ve been really welcomed in that area,” Ms Hartley said.

“It’s a bit of an iconic building that we took over; it’s been in the community for 45 years.

“It’s a sports and recreation centre and so they really wanted another community, family orientated business so they’ve welcomed us with open arms.”

Renovations at the new location are set to be completed by the start of next year and will be the biggest gym by square metres under the gym group so far.

Ms Hartley said their Townsville gyms are also constantly being upgraded to keep up with current trends and enhance the members’ experience within the fitness space.

“We did open up recovery at the CBD in the middle of the year because (central) was the only location with the recovery,” she said.

“We are celebrating North Shore’s 10th birthday next week and we’ve got something new and exciting coming very early in the new year to (central) … but I can’t say anything more about that.” ‘

Strand Fitness thanked all of their members for voting them the best in Townsville for the second year in a row.

“I think it’s just so amazing they stayed loyal to us over the last few years. We’ve done a lot of renovations and so they’ve been with us the whole time and have grown with us as a business,” Ms Hartley said.
