A South Townsville retiree has been left heartbroken and desperate after the suspected dognapping of her beloved pet, Remi, from her backyard.

Kathryn Greenshields said she only took her eyes off her beloved fox terrier for a few minutes when Remi suddenly vanished from their Barlow St home around 9 am last Friday.

Her suspicions that Remi had been stolen intensified when she noticed her dog’s harness and leash were also gone.

“I don’t understand why someone would do something like this — I’m devastated,” Kathryn said.

Remi hasn't been seen since Friday.

“I’ve had very little sleep since Friday because I’ve been too worried.”

“Police told me sometimes opportunistic thieves will do this and try to sell pets online for a quick buck so I’ve been keeping an eye but there’s been nothing yet.

“If she’s sold, she could be miles away. Who knows?”

Every day since Remi went missing, Kathryn has been tirelessly searching the streets and nearby parks but to no avail.

She is offering a reward for Remi’s return, no questions asked.

“She’s all I have to come home to,” the retiree said.

“I was out the other day and found myself not even wanting to come home because I knew she wouldn’t be there.

“Remi is my dear little pal. I miss her terribly and just want her back.”
