A heartbroken woman has pleaded for the safe return of her beloved pet dog after she was stolen from her car in a busy inner-city street
Marbles, an 8-year-old miniature pomeranian, was secured inside a canvas crate on the front seat of Christine McGregor’s parked but unlocked grey Kia Sportage when she was stolen from Brunswick East on Wednesday
Ms McGregor had parked her car on O’Connor St, near the intersection of Lygon St, to run an errand around noon.
However, Marbles was no longer in the car when she returned about 30 minutes later.
Ms McGregor said she felt “numb” and had been ”beside herself” since Marbles was taken.
“This is my replacement child, really. It was very quiet after my last child left, so I bought her as a puppy. We‘ve been together 24/7,” she said.
“I can‘t fathom the idea of replacing her; I just want to find who has taken her.
“I will honestly buy you another puppy or dog, whatever you want; just give me my Marbles back.”
Ms McGregor and Marbles normally spend half their week living in the country.
“I’m really worried for her because Marbles has been half out in the country and she’s not very good with cars and traffic.
“I just want to hear her breathing; I want to know that she‘s got the right food and [is] looked after.”
Constable Taylor White said he didn‘t understand why someone would steal a part of somebody’s family.
“I have no understanding of why someone would steal a dog; it‘s like a child, it’s a kid; it’s part of the family,” he said.
He implored the dognapper to return the dog.
“We don’t need to know why you’ve done it; we just want the dog returned safely.
“Do the right thing and return Marbles.
“You can go to the pound, the police station or the vet; it can be done anonymously; just bring her back.”
Marbles is tan in colour and was wearing a red collar at the time.
