An esky and tiny solar panels is all it takes to keep the beloved Queens Rd Coffee Cart chugging along every morning.

Entirely off-the-grid, the coffee cart’s set up is enough to make any camping enthusiast rush for their camera, with its lightweight single axle design, own fold-out bar, clever storage, and beautiful wooden counters.

Quinn Sheehan and Imogen Weeks are the busy new owners of the roadside cart, but they aren’t new faces for customers.

Mr Sheehan worked for the previous owner for four and a half years before the opportunity to buy the business recently popped up.

“We took it over two and a half months ago,” Ms Weeks said.

“We’re still learning about all those little things that come with being owners that you never knew existed.”

Four and a half years is a long time to be waking up before dawn, making coffees beside the road.

When asked what kept him at the forge (in this case, a coffee machine capable of brewing four coffees at once) Mr Sheenan said he loved it.

“I personally really enjoy making coffee,” he said.

“I find it very satisfying.”

Lucky he does, because the Queens Rd Coffee Cart doesn’t know the meaning of a holiday.

On weekdays the cart can be found with tyres chocked up near the Queens Rd roundabout beside the park from 6am to 10.30am.

On Saturdays they’re also there, 7am to 10.30am, and on their one day off - Sunday - the business’s second, bulkier cart is out and about catering at community events such as school rowing days and Cowboys games.

So, has the cold snap driven customers back into their beds? Mr Sheenan says no.

“It’s actually been super busy this week,” he said directly after the 7 degree mornings.

“I think when it’s colder, people are more likely to stop for that hot drink.”

The Queens Rd Coffee Cart specialises in all kinds of coffees - plus hot chocolates and chia drinks.

The business sources its beans from Good Morning Coffee, of Garbutt fame and Otto’s fame.
