PARAMEDIC Michael Paulsen has seen the devastation cancer causes up close.
He has seen it take people and he wants it to stop.
To do so, he will put his body on the line and ride 1400km from Sydney to Geelong over nine days for the Tour de Cure.
“The reason I’m doing this is cancer touches everyone,” he said.
“I’ve had relatives and friends affected by cancer. As an ambulance paramedic I have personally and professionally seen the effects of this horrible disease.
“It needs to be stopped.”
Mr Paulsen describes himself as a charity event cyclist rather than a racer.
He started out with the Townsville to Cairns Bike Rides, raising money for the Children’s Cancer Institute.
He has completed eight Townsville to Cairns rides and this year’s Tour de Cure will be his fifth. Mr Paulsen will join fellow Townsville cyclist Darren Frakes on the epic ride.
Local musician Trent Bell will be playing at the Heritage Exchange on Sunday night, supported by Townsville band The Jamm, raising money for Mr Paulsen’s Tour de Cure campaign.
Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased at townsvilletickets.com.au. Doors opens at 6.30pm.
You can also donate to Mr Paulsen on his Tour de Cure page.
