A quick-thinking Good Samaritan has stepped in to help a delivery driver who was allegedly assaulted during a chaotic carjacking attempt in West End.
Police say the incident unfolded around 2.30pm on Friday, when man allegedly entered a parked vehicle while the 24-year-old driver was out making a delivery on Echlin Street.
The man is accused of driving off with the victim still inside the car, before crashing into a pole.
It’s then alleged he punched the 24-year-old, leaving him with facial injuries.
Police said that’s when a member of the public intervened, and the man fled the scene in a vehicle.
He was located by police a short time later and arrested, while the injured driver was taken to Townsville General Hospital for treatment.
A 25-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle (use or threaten violence), unlawful entry of a vehicle with intent to commit an indictable offence, and unlicensed driving.
He’s set to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow, March 24.
