North Queensland Cowboys’ all-time leading try scorer Kyle Feldt is set to part ways with the club at the end of the season, closing a chapter on a glittering career that’s solidified his status as a homegrown hero in Townsville.

The Cowboys have planned a special send-off for Feldt during Thursday’s clash against the Melbourne Storm, where fans are in for an emotional night as he completes a lap of honour after full-time.

Fellow life member Jake Granville will also be honoured with a lap of his own before kick-off.

Reflecting on his decision to leave, Feldt said, “This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but I feel the time is right.”

“I have been very fortunate to live out my childhood dream to play NRL for my hometown team for 11 years.

“The club has given me the opportunity to stay home where many other professional athletes have had to move away from their family.

“I’ve made some amazing memories and lifelong friends.”

The Townsville-born star worked his way through the Cowboys’ NYC program before making his NRL debut in 2013.

Over 12 action-packed seasons and 213 games, the 32-year-old has become one of the Cowboys’ most celebrated outside backs.

He’s perhaps best remembered for the epic 2015 grand final against the Broncos, where he crossed the line after the siren, following a brilliant flick pass from Michael Morgan, taking the game to golden point, where the Cowboys clinched their first-ever premiership.

Feldt was honoured as the 13th Life Member of the club earlier this season during round eight, after reaching the incredible milestone of 200 games.

He also shattered Matty Bowen’s long-standing try-scoring record, notching up his 131st try in front of a roaring home crowd at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in round five.

Cowboys general manager Michael Luck praised Feldt for his contributions to the club.

“This club was formed so North Queenslanders could stay at home to play rugby league at the highest level, and Kyle Feldt encapsulates that vision,” he said.

“He came through our junior systems, became one of the major contributors in our first premiership, and finishes as a Life Member and the club’s greatest ever try-scorer.
