The cost of living crisis is affecting many Territorian families and unfortunately looks to remain omnipresent for the foreseeable future.

The Labor Government is continuing their investment into NT sport, with $6m in funds under the Sports Voucher Scheme.

These vouchers provide respite in consideration of the rise in cost of equipment and registrations year on year.

As it stands, since July 1, 2023, more than 9,150 Urban Sport Vouchers and 2,000 Learn to Swim Vouchers have been redeemed, as well as 36 remote schools being provided monetary support for their own sports and recreation programs.

The vouchers are available across 350 registered sport, active recreation and cultural activity providers.

Sports Minister Kate Worden said the Territory Labor Government wanted to support NT families.

Children enrolled in an urban school from transition to year 12 – including homeschooled students – can apply for two $100 vouchers each year.

Children under five, or at the age of five but not currently enrolled in school, can apply for two $100 Learn to Swim vouchers each year.

“The Territory Labor Government is focused on supporting NT families and their cost of living pressures,” Sports Minister Kate Worden said.

“Playing sport is an important part of a young person’s development both mentally and physically, and gives them a connection to an activity they can enjoy.

“The Sport Voucher Scheme helps families better manage the cost of these activities.

“Territory kids shouldn’t miss out in participating in an activity they love.”

Applications for the Sports and Learn to Swim Vouchers close on May 23, 2024 and can be made at grantsnt.nt.gov.au.
