Tennant Creek High School: Vandalism forces school to shut doors for year 11 and 12 students

Tennant Creek High School has been targeted by vandals, forcing leaders to shut down the campus for the majority of students.
On Wednesday morning, Tennant Creek High School issued a statement on the school’s Facebook page, confirming the campus had been vandalised overnight.
“School will be closed today for all students besides year 11s, year 12s and drone course students,” the statement read.
“This is due to vandalism overnight, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The extent of the damage is yet to be confirmed.
News of the damage comes just days after the school congratulated families and students alike on positive attendance figures.
“Thank you everyone for the great attendance results we are getting at the high school, it is wonderful to have so many students coming in and working hard”
A Department of Education spokeswoman told this masthead some classrooms were being repaired after being particularly damaged.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and the school is expected to be fully open tomorrow,” she said.
“The matter has been reported to police.
“The wellbeing and safety of our students and staff is our priority and our schools will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour.”
The vandalism also follows an incident at Rosebery Middle School in Palmerston on August 23 that led to the campus being locked down after a fight between youths broke out on campus.
On Monday, Taminmin College was locked down after a 14-year-old student who had been drinking on campus, allegedly assaulted the principal.
