A TOP End surveyor came across a rare glimpse of the animal kingdom, with a crocodile and an egret soaking up the sun together.

Vegetation surveyor Quentin Vanda-Mower said the croc wasn’t agitated or preying on the bird, but rather the dup were living together in peace.

“I’m not sure if the reason why it had its mouth open was the bird, maybe they co exist and it was just cleaning its mouth,” he said.

“We drove past later and they were sitting comfortably, they must have been mates.

“It was so high up on those rocks, that’s a fair climb for the crocodile, it was quite unusual.”

Mr Vanda-Mower said while he came across several crocs through his work seeing eight others on the same day, this one caught his eye.

“We were just doing some plant surveying, looking at what plants and vegetation were in the area and I went to take the photo of the plant behind it and without even realising there was a crocodile there,” he said.
