IN the heart of Darwin exists a remarkable natural environment — and a local dance company is offering a unique opportunity for residents to soak in its sights and sounds.
This year marks the 21st Darwin Festival show for Tracks Dance Company.
For 2016, Tracks has prepared a unique performance called Landed, which tells the story of three young Darwinites who return to the NT after a period of time away.
The show is performed in the dry Marrara Swamp, the source of Rapid Creek.
Landed is about the source of wisdom, says Tracks Dance co-artistic director David McMicken.
“Experience the magic of walking into the bush, of just being there, so close to the city that we forget such places exist,” Mr McMicken said.
“We like to take Darwin people to new places.”
Co-artistic director Tim Newth said the show involved more than 40 individual dancers and five separate performances. “It’s an interesting process when you come back on your own,” Mr Newth said.
The Landed audience will be guided around the Gurambai walking trail, and sensible shoes are recommended.
Performers include students from Casuarina Senior College and Millner Primary School, members of the Tracks ensemble, and breakdancers.
The show runs from July 31 to August 14. Find more info at darwinfestival.org.au
