A driver who last month allegedly fled after hitting two people on a scooter at Gilles Plains McDonalds has been arrested.

Following an investigation, the man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after causing harm, driving without due care and speed dangerous.

He was arrested late last month and bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on July 22.

Emergency services were called to the scene on North East Rd about 5.40pm on a Sunday May 18, where the rider and passenger of the scooter – a 35-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, both of Modbury Heights – were taken to hospital for minor injuries.

An individual posting on Reddit said he was at the scene north of Adelaide, where the woman who had been riding pillion was in “excruciating pain” after she had been “left lying on the cold asphalt, floating in and out of consciousness while I called triple-0”.

He said he “made sure she was still alive and breathing” after the sedan driver allegedly hit the scooter at the drive-through.

“Her partner (was) staring helpless, desperate,” the man said on Reddit.
