Radio station FIVEaa is standing by Warren Tredrea after a turbulent week in which the Port Adelaide great was accused of promoting anti-Semitism on his controversial podcast.
The Power legend will continue his football commentary role during tonight’s FIVEaa broadcast of the Port Adelaide v Carlton clash at Adelaide Oval, and his position is not understood to be in any doubt.
A FIVEaa spokesman declined to comment when contacted by The Advertiser.
It comes after the Port Adelaide Football Club released a statement on Wednesday revealing that Tredrea’s board position was under review, after he released an episode of his podcast which the Jewish Council of Australia claimed featured “anti-Semitic conspiracy theories”.
Chairman David Koch said the club had “comprehensive governance standards that apply to all directors and club officials”.
“Directors and officials of the club are entitled to their personal views, however there are concerns that recent content published is in breach of these standards,” Koch said.
“The club is committed to upholding the professional standards our members, partners and the community expect and deserve.”
Tredrea will retain his place on the board until the review is complete.
On Wednesday night, Tredrea strongly refuted any suggestion he was promoting anti-Semitism, and declared “in no way, shape or form” is he an anti-Semite.
“Let me make it abundantly clear. I unequivocally condemn war and genocide, and seek only to share other perspectives of what has been a very one way reported narrative in the mainstream media,” he wrote on social media.
“I am not in any way, shape, or form, an antisemite, and consider it defamatory for anyone to accuse me as such.”
Speaking on Tredrea’s podcast, The Ballsy Show, British army veteran AJ Roberts referred to Israel as a “fake state” created by “the same Zionists who were controlling World War II”.
He also claimed that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City, and had worked with former US President Barack Obama to create ISIS.
The explosive claims, later shared in a clip on Tredrea’s Instagram, was quickly condemned by Jewish Council of Australia boss Max Kaiser as the “amplification of far-right anti-Semitic conspiracy theories”.
Adelaide Jewish leader Norman Schueler argued that while Tredrea didn’t make those remarks himself he was “tarnished with the same brush” for giving a platform to “rubbish” theories.
“He should stick to AFL because it’s in poor taste and to some it would seem he’s demeaning himself,” he said.
The controversy comes amid Tredrea’s ongoing dispute with his former employer Channel 9.
Tredrea has claimed his contract was unfairly terminated in 2022 after he refused to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
