Adelaide’s newest hospital combines subtle luxury with AI driven technology — and the bold claim is it “much quieter” than other hospitals thanks to a simple innovation.
Eastwood Private Hospital on Greenhill Rd is now accepting short stay surgical patients across orthopaedics, ophthalmology, plastics and general surgery.
The $90m collaboration between Fortius Hospitals and a group of Adelaide surgeons has 51 inpatient beds, six operating theatres and is expected to treat more than 7000 patients each year.
The light-filled building on the edge of the parklands has a cafe, almost 300 car parks, a dedicated patient drop-off zone plus on site radiology, pathology, physiotherapy and podiatry.
“Our hospital will be much quieter than other hospitals due to the ‘silent’ nurse call bell, allowing for greater rest and recuperation,” officials say.
“Spacious, private rooms with luxurious amenities and wellness-allied health programs are designed to create a relaxed environment where patients feel more like they are visiting a luxurious hotel rather than a medical facility.”
While “nearly all” rooms are private, some patients may be placed in a double room if they require closer observation by nursing staff.
Designed for day and short-stay surgery, the hospital has a suite of digital and robotic systems to support surgical planning and delivery, and bedside patient monitoring.
These include AI-assisted surgical technology, electronic health records and HEPA-filtered air circulation systems in patient areas.
A digital app developed in partnership with US-based Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company is available to patients to support their care before, during and after surgery through structured education and real-time guidance.
As well as having hi-tech equipment, orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chien-Wen Liew said the hospital’s calming, comfortable surroundings help reduce patient stress levels and assist with recovery.
“It has a luxury hotel feel to it — reception is like entering the Qantas Club, lounges have parklands views, there’s lots of natural light — there is nothing like it in Adelaide,” he said.
“The hospital environment is something that can give an edge to patient outcomes, this is extremely comfortable for people coming in for surgery and then recovering.”
The hospital also operates the Eastwood Research Institute to support clinical research and provide educational opportunities for health professionals and students including observation opportunities in theatre.
