The youngest students at Westminster School will benefit from a new $25m junior primary building, fitted out with new art and STEM areas and outdoor learning spaces.
The Marion school announced the new build on Wednesday, which would cater for students in reception to year 3, and also included technology-integrated classrooms and creative breakout areas.
Staff will have spaces in the development to “support progressive teaching practice”.
It is the fifth major capital development in as many years for the school including their on-site Sturt Grove Farm, Thomas Foods International Centre for Agriculture and a STEM precinct.
The school also unveiled its $16m Forder Centre for music and arts in 2022.
Westminster School principal Simon Shepherd said the new development would “be more than a building”.
“It will be a place where children feel a deep sense of belonging, where imagination is encouraged and where the foundations for lifelong adventurous learning are being laid,” Mr Shepherd said.
“Every design element has been thoughtfully considered to support agile, future-focused learning.”
Construction on the project will begin at the end of this year and it is set to open for the start of 2027.
Westminster head of preparatory school Simon McKenzie said the new building would give staff “the flexibility to support each child as they develop their voice, agency and love of learning”.
“Our approach celebrates the wonder of childhood and the uniqueness of every learner,” Mr McKenzie said.
The school chose Brown Falconer as the architect for the project.
