South Australians have woken up to the coldest April morning in nine years, with temperatures dropping into the negatives.

In the state’s southeast, Keith reached a low of -1 degrees, while Coonawarra (0C), Naracoorte (0.3C), Padthaway (-0.7C) and Robe airport (0.4C) all saw frosty lows.

In Adelaide’s northern suburbs, Parafield Airport was among the coldest reaching 2.5C, as Edinburgh also felt the icy temperatures with a recorded low of 5C.

At about 7am in the city this morning, it was just 6.8C with many morning commuters seen in jumpers and coats.

“The minimum temperature this morning in Adelaide (at the West Terrace site) was 6.3C, which is the lowest April temperature recorded for Adelaide since April 20, 2015, when it was 6C (at Kent Town).” a BOM spokesperson said.

In the Murraylands, Pallamana saw a cold of -0.2C just after 6.19am while Renmark Airport dropped to 0.5C.

The rest of Monday should be warm and sunny in Adelaide with a forecast top of 25C.

The temperature will rise even further on Tuesday, to 26C and partly cloudy. However, the heat will be short-lived, with a cooler change sweeping in later that day, with the chance of rain.

The mercury will dip to just 18C on Wednesday, with more possible showers, followed by another potentially damp day on Thursday, with a high of 19C.
