Labor MP Jayne Stinson has resigned from the Opposition’s frontbench to deal with “deeply personal matters”.

Ms Stinson, who represents the Badcoe electorate, stood down from the Shadow Cabinet on Friday morning.

“These deeply personal matters have been distressing and I’ve decided to step back from the frontbench to give myself time to deal with this,” she said.

Ms Stinson, who was the Opposition spokeswoman for the planning and local government, multicultural affairs and arts portfolios, will continue in her role as Badcoe MP and will contest the 2022 State Election.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the community I love in Badcoe,” she said.

Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas thanked Ms Stinson for her work and achievements.

“Her decision to step back from the frontbench will give Jayne the time she needs to deal with her personal matters,” he said.

“She is an outstanding Member for Badcoe and I know she will continue to work hard and passionately serve her community.”

Mr Malinauskas said Ms Stinson would continue to have the support of the Labor team as she deals with her personal matters.

Ms Stinson, a former TV journalist, was elected to the seat of Badcoe at the 2018 State Election.

Her replacement is expected to be announced in the coming days.
