It would have been certain death for the kangaroo trapped between fence wires in the harsh Murray Mallee – but by sheer luck the marsupial was saved.

The unexpected heroes turned out to be Filipino beekeepers, Alvin, Godfrey, Romolo and Noel who accidentally came across the trapped animal just outside Pinnaroo.

The group immediately launched into action to save the kangaroo despite its powerful size.

The beekeepers stretched apart the fence wires, and manoeuvred the kangaroo’s tail and trapped legs until the animal was finally freed.

Once the kangaroo could stand on its own two feet, it turned to face its saviours and after a meaningful pause, hopped away.

But Alvin, Godfrey, Romolo and Noel can be heard celebrating and waving farewell to the animal.

Denise Kyriazis, who knows the men, said she wasn’t surprised they saved the kangaroo.

“(They are) such genuine nice guys, hard working, always happy,” she said.

“One tried a peach the other day … he couldn’t believe it.

“They are all professional beekeepers … their job is to maintain beehives in South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria.

“They work long hours in sometimes hard conditions.”
