An elderly woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries after a serious crash involving a truck and car in Adelaide’s inner northeastern suburbs.

Police were called to the intersection of Bakewell Road and Portrush Road after receiving reports of a collision, about 10.30am on Saturday.

The driver of the car, a 73-year-old Trinity Gardens woman, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old Largs North man, was not injured.

The crash caused major traffic delays on Portrush Rd near Bakewell Rd but the road has since reopened.

An SA Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed to The Advertiser that a woman was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

Local resident Martin Wright, 64, said he had seen too many road crashes involving trucks along Portrush Rd.

“The amount of trucks that use this road these days, 24/7, is ridiculous,” he said.

“And they’re big double-Bs or whatever you call them.

Mr Wright also called on the government to build a bypass in the area to prevent further crashes and damage to the road.

Major Crash investigators attended the scene and are examining the circumstances behind the incident.
