A bushfire that started in Adelaide’s south on Monday afternoon has prompted an urgent warning for locals in the area.

The CFS issued a ‘Watch and Act – Leave Now’ message on Monday, just after 5.30pm for the Onkaparinga Hills, near Woodcroft in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges.

The warning has since been downgraded to ‘Monitor Conditions’, just after 7pm, with authorities saying there is “no threat to life or property” at this time.

Over 20 firefighters, fire bombers and two heli tankers were dispatched to help tackle the blaze that sparked around 4.50pm, on Education Rd in Onkaparinga Hills.

The grassfire continued to spread through scrub in a North easterly direction towards Armata Road, Humber Court, Rudge Close, Forest Drive, Vaucluse Drive, Evandale Circuit and Mcharg Road, Chandlers Hill.

Affected locals were seen evacuating their animals, including horses, to safety while the bushfire conditions remained uncertain.

Residents in the area are still being urged to “monitor local conditions and stay informed”, as conditions continue to change.
