Katy Perry singles out SA Premier Peter Malinauskas over MCG move to reverse Adelaide ‘mistake’

There was an elephant in the room at the first Katy Perry concert in Adelaide on Thursday, and the star singer couldn’t let it go unmentioned.

Katy Perry has admitted to her adoring fans that she was “foolish” to initially leave Adelaide off her Lifetimes Tour, as she last night kicked off the first of four shows at the Entertainment Centre.

“I was silly, I was foolish when Adelaide was left off the docket for the Lifetimes Tour,” she told a sold-out concert, saying “some guy” came up to her at last year’s AFL grand final and said “You’ve gotta come to Adelaide”.

That “guy” was Premier Peter Maulinauskas, who attended Thursday’s show.

All hope seemed lost when Adelaide did not appear as a concert destination in Perry’s original schedule, but after a campaign led by The Advertiser, and some schmoozing from Mr Maulinauskas, South Australian fans wishes were granted – not once, but four times.

Known for her out-there costumes and over-the-top stage sets, Perry brought her larger-than-life energy to the EntCent for the first time in six years.

Thousands of fans packed into Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the first show on Thursday. Skye Donald said she was “so excited” to see her “childhood favourite” light up the stage from the “Eternity Circle” section of the dance floor.

“We’re hoping to be at the front and singing very loud,” Ms Donald said.

Her night was already set to be one to remember with Ms Donald informed hours before the concert started that she would be meeting the superstar herself.

“I might be speechless,” she admitted. Jordanne Groenveld and daughter, Maicee were looking forward to some “good quality mother-daughter time” at their favourite singer’s concert.

It was Maicee’s first ever concert with the young fan receiving the tickets as a birthday present. “She’s very excited,” Ms Groenveld said.

“Katy Perry is one of those upbeat people and (Maicee) can sing along and bop to her songs.”

While Maicee will be hanging out to hear Perry’s hit California Gurls, her mum said she will be singing her heart out during Roar.

“It’s such a powerful song and it has gotten me through some hard times…I love it,” she said.
