The close childhood bond between Port Adelaide captain Connor Rozee and gun Power recruit Jack Lukosius goes back to when the pair were boys, as the duo are set to unite for a special occasion this weekend.

Lukosius was recruited to the Power two weeks ago and is set to feature as a groomsman in Rozee’s wedding on Saturday.

The pair met as 11-year-olds when they both made the state under 12s cricket side and have been close friends ever since.

“We speak almost every day,” Rozee said last month.

Former Gold Coast utility Lukosius said Rozee was “very excited” when he told his close mate he was joining the Power.

“He was great through the journey,” the Power recruit said.

“He was pushing for me to go to Port but kind of knew I had to make my own call.

“He kept a bit of a distance.

“(The friendship) came into a little bit. Obviously good mates but I had to make the best call for me and my career and definitely took my time. It helps that he’s there, for sure.

“I told him on Brownlow night and he was stoked, and we had a couple of beers today, so it was great.”

One of the pair’s first encounters since Lukosius’ return to his home state will be at Rozee’s wedding this weekend.

“It’s obviously a special weekend for him,” Lukosius said.

“I’m keen to meet a few boys and have a good time.

“I’m a groomsman but I’m not sure what that entails yet. But I’m looking forward to celebrating with him.”

After meeting while playing for South Australia’s under 12 state cricket side, the pair followed similar sporting pathways, opting to focus on football over cricket and eventually both going top 10 in the 2018 AFL draft.
