A prisoner who used a set of clothes as rope in a daring Houdini-style escape from the city’s Adelaide Remand Centre is at the centre of a major police hunt.
Jason Burdon, 33, managed to escape by bending window louvres in the kitchen area about 9.55am, before scaling down a wall in rope made from pants and a T-shirt. Police were alerted to his daring escape about 10.20am but Burdon had fled the area on a stolen e-bike.
Witnesses saw the escapee riding towards Port Road.
About 12.45pm, Burdon reached Military Road at West Lakes Shore, where he is suspected of stealing a black Toyota RAV4 with registration S279BB.
It has distinctive silver roof racks and camping awning on one side.
Police have swarmed the West Lakes Aquatic Centre, where a worker's 4WD has been stolen - escapee Jason Burdon is believed to be responsible.

The car’s owner is a local worker who was on the water at the time of the theft.
Burdon, of Humpty Doo in the Northern Territory, is facing charges of illegally possessing ammunition and a firearm.
He was arrested by police at Mawson Lakes on November 2.
Burdon was also charged with three counts of serious criminal trespass in a place of residence, five counts of dishonestly taking property, deceiving another to benefit himself, driving a motor vehicle without consent, dishonestly dealing with property and a further two counts of breaching bail.
Police now allege a string of offences in September breached the bail agreement Burdon had entered into in August. It is those offences on which he is believed to have been refused bail and remanded in custody.
Burdon is about 165cm tall, of medium build with light brown hair. He was wearing a navy T-shirt, navy shorts, dark socks and workboots.
Superintendent Craig Wall said Burdon “does not pose a risk to the community” but should not be approached.
A Correctional Services Department spokeswoman said the remand centre was “secure” and all other prisoners had been accounted for.
Public Service Association general secretary Neville Kitchin blamed the centre’s recent privatisation for the escape.
Anyone with information on Burdon’s location or sightings of him or the stolen Toyota should contact police on 131 444.
