One of Adelaide’s best-known nightclubs is set to shut its doors for good next month in another blow to the city’s premier party strip.

The operators of Red Square on Hindley St have announced the club is closing on March 9 with a 24-hour non-stop farewell party.

Club management took to social media on Friday to reveal the shock closure after “22 record-breaking years”.

“The time has come to say goodbye to a Hindley St icon. Red Square will be closing its doors this March,” the club owners wrote on Facebook.

“The street has changed dramatically in recent times, and all good things must come to an end.

“Red Square has been at the very heart of Adelaide’s club scene for over two decades; hosting countless international acts and starting the careers of many local DJs and MCs.

“Thank you to every single one of you who came through these doors.”

Red Square, headed by Wolf Nightlife Group boss Antony Tropeano, will continue trading this weekend up until March 9, closing with a 24-hour farewell event called the “Last Dance” including a rooftop day session with a bottomless drinks package. It’s part of a four-week series of goodbye events.

“We have recognised that after a record-breaking 22 years at the top end of Adelaide’s nightlife scene it is time to finish on a high so we can pursue a new concept that will take us through the next 20 years,” Mr Tropeano said.

The news follows the closure of other Hindley St nightspots, Hawaiian-inspired bar and eatery Hades Hula House and nightclub Super California, in December.

Fellow Hindley St nightclub Dog and Duck had also announced it was shutting its doors but later revealed it was moving to another location on the same street.
