Girl, 13, left injured on median strip in West Lakes Boulevard at Hendon after being struck by car

Police say a woman driver mounted a median strip and struck a young girl before fleeing the scene without helping the injured child.

A 13-year-old girl has been left with a broken pelvis and lacerations to her head and leg after a driver mounted a median strip and rammed the teen, before disappearing.

The girl had crossed from the eastern side of West Lakes Boulevard in Hendon and was standing on the median strip waiting for traffic to pass, about 4.30pm on Monday.

It was then, police say, a woman travelling in a north-westerly direction on West Lakes Boulevard in a KIA SUV allegedly mounted the median strip and struck the girl.

The 13-year-old was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say while the female driver briefly stopped after the crash, she fled the scene shortly after without helping the injured girl.

The vehicle involved is an orange KIA SUV with roof racks and has a damaged driver’s side mirror.

Police are appealing for information that could identify the vehicle and driver involved and are seeking witnesses who may have dashcam or CCTV footage.
