Former opposition leader David Speirs spotted with social running club The Oaklands Run Club

Following a controversial illegal substance scandal, the former opposition leader has been seen building up a sweat and back on the trail.

Taking a step back from limelight following a controversial illegal substance scandal, former opposition leader David Speirs is putting his energy into his fitness and wellbeing.

Mr Speirs joined the newly established social running club, The Oaklands Run Club, that brings together members for a 2.5km or 5km midweek fun run.

Speirs was spotted front and center in a picture of the “ORC crew”, shared to social media on Friday, after a meet up on Wednesday afternoon.

Last week, Speirs also appeared at their “launch night” when the group kicked off their first session at Sturt River Linear Park at Coromandel Valley.

“It was great company and warm conditions for our first night hitting the trail,” they wrote.

The 39-year-old stepped down as Opposition leader on August 8 then officially resigned from statement parliament on October 15. He has been charged with two counts accused of supplying a controlled substance.
