A structure fire at an aluminium production factory in the Barossa Valley has caused $100,000 damage.

Firefighters responded to a triple-0 call at 9:14pm on Wednesday for a structure fire at Capral Aluminium on Crennis Mines Rd, Angaston.

However, volunteer firefighters contained the fire to a paint hopper and worked to make the scene safe for work to continue in adjoining parts of the premises.

In a fortunate coincidence, the Angaston CFS was actively training for such an incident when the alarm was raised.

“For training tonight, Angaston CFS crew was learning about breathing apparatus and how we respond to structure fires,” the brigade posted online.

“The training quickly became real when we were called to a going structure fire at Capral Aluminium on Crennis Mines Rd.

“Quick thinking from Breathing Apparatus Operators contained the fire to the ‘area of origin’, preventing further damage to the premises.

“Crews were able to make the scene safe, and hand it back to Capral staff.”

When arriving on scene firefighters found the fire located within the paint hopper and conducted a direct attack using breathing apparatus, thermal imaging cameras and atmospheric monitoring.

The fire has resulted in $100,000 damage to the factory.

SA Police and SA Ambulance Service personnel were also on scene.
