The heartbroken owners of a popular southern suburbs coffee bar have been forced out of business after thieves targeted the business.

The Good Karma Coffee Bar, which operates near the Christies Beach Surf Club, was ravaged by thieves who took “everything” between the evening of Thursday, March 20 and Friday morning.

The robbery was so severe, owners Dan and Skye announced the end of the business.

“That’s the end of Good Karma coffee bar, my heart is completely broken – overnight someone has broken into our van and stolen everything,” the owners posted to customers on social media.

“My coffee machine, my grinder, my (eftpos) machine, filter, drinks fridge, till, menu, bags full of coffee, tea, even down to my cutlery draws and empty containers and marshmallows.

“This van has been my family’s only income, and paying off the massive amount of debt we accumulated from having the cafe.”

The owners confirmed the van was not covered by insurance.

“We could not afford insurance, stupid I know but we are living week to week trying to keep a roof over our heads,” the post said.

“Dan and I both have major health problems and this was my way of providing for my family with doing what I could.

“I cannot fathom why anyone would do this! If you only knew the time, the effort, the blood sweat and tears that we have put into this van and this business.

“This has been my family’s life for the last two years and just like that it is ripped away from us.”

However, the community quickly rallied to support the business and within hours on Friday, a GoFundMe was set up.

The crowd funding effort has so far raised $10,400 to help the business get back on its feet and organiser Amy Davey said owners Dan and Skye were always fundraising for charities and deserved to have “Good Karma come their way”.

“Our amazing friends at the Good Karma Coffee Van have had their beloved van broken into overnight and everything has been stolen,” she said.

“Everyone that knows Dan and Skye knows what a massive part of our community they are. They are the heart of our beach and surf club and life won’t be the same without them around.

“Good Karma is their sole income and they have put so much into building up this awesome little business. They cannot afford to start again.”
