Meet Simba and Nala, a pair of dogs named after the heroic characters from the Lion King who are allegedly terrorising an Adelaide neighbourhood.

Campbelltown Council has launched legal action against Athelstone resident Yuri Lediaev, 53, the owner of “rottweiler-type” Simba and Great Dane-mastiff cross Nala.

But the council has struggled to serve him with a summons because he is believed to be a fly-in, fly-out worker.

In court documents obtained by The Advertiser, the council alleges the dogs “attacked/harassed” a person in Linear Park at Athelstone last April.

The dogs were also allegedly not properly leashed at the park and allegedly wandered onto a “private place” at Berry Fry Ave without permission on the same day.

A neighbour, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said she was aware of other incidents too.

“People take their dogs to the (nearby) soccer pitch ... and well behaved dogs go off the leash. But these dogs obviously haven’t been trained,” she said.

She said her husband was “very, very careful” when he walks their own dog.

“A neighbour goes out running and he’s so frightened of them. He’s very, very careful about when he goes running,” she said.

“Other people are wary too.”

Mr Lediaev is facing six charges. Being the owner of a dog which attacks/chases and wandered at large, as a result of the alleged incidents on April 16, 2024.

Court documents say the dogs were “under the control of the defendant” and were “not secured by a strong leash.” at Linear Park.

Linear Park runs through several council areas including Campbelltown and Tea Tree Gully.

While Campbelltown dictates that all dogs on the walking trail and shared paths must be leashed, a nearby crossing footbridge which enters into neighbouring Tea Tree Gully Council permits dogs to be off lead on the shared path.

Mr Lediaev is yet to front court.

In December, the court heard council attempted to serve Mr Lediaev the summons three times.

“It just seems he is a fly-in fly-out worker and we miss him when we attempt to serve personally,” a council representative said.

Adelaide Magistrates Court permitted the council to serve a summons to Mr Lediaev by email.

The Advertiser has been unable to reach Mr Lediaev for comment.

The case is due back in court later this month.
