New CCTV evidence in the case of a group of alleged meth traffickers from Adelaide’s northern suburbs could end up in charges being withdrawn, a court has heard.
On Wednesday, Bradley Horlor, 29, Scott Michael Kristian Smith, 39, Grant Robert McDougall, 54, and Emily Michaela Jade Lane-Watson, 30, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Simon Smart was set to take pleas from each of the co-accused, but prosecutors applied for a four-week adjournment because new CCTV evidence had been disclosed.
“We need time to consider the CCTV and it may impact on the charges that have been laid potentially, Your Honour,” prosecutors told the court.
“Analysis of the CCTV could lead to the matter resolving.”
Defence joined with the application, and Mr Smart adjourned the matter until early next year.
Mr Horlor, of Munno Para, is yet to enter a plea to 11 counts of trafficking a controlled drug, one count of trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and one count of trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
Mr Smith, of Munno Para West, is yet to enter a plea to two counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug and one count of trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
Mr McDougall, of Munno Para West, is yet to enter a plea to four counts of trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug, and two counts of trafficking in a controlled drug and Ms Lane-Watson, of Munno Para, is yet to enter a plea to three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug.
The court previously heard Mr McDougall was granted home detention bail to return to his home, which police allege was used by Mr Smith to store “items” including more than $105,000 worth of meth.
Mr McDougall was allegedly part of an operation that involved the trafficking of large quantities of meth and cocaine.
Detectives allegedly watched Mr Smith attending Mr McDougall’s home to collect a backpack and later Mr Smith took part, with Bradley Horlor, in the sale of 1kg of methamphetamine for $105,000.
The court heard Mr Smith and Mr Horlor were allegedly in negotiations with “persons known to police” in discussing the sale of 250kg of meth.
He was arrested in May alongside Mr Smith, Mr Horlor and two other northern suburbs people after an investigation from October last year.
His Honour recorded that some charges may be withdrawn on the next occasion, and remanded all four defendants on continuing bail.
They will return to court in January.
