Be a Demon for a day, Melbourne asks Adelaide ahead of Brisbane clash

The AFL minor premier says there are hundreds of reasons for Adelaideans to forget an age old rivalry – if just for one day – when they clash with Brisbane at the Oval.

Minor premier Melbourne, has a message for Adelaideans: Forget the old Victoria-South Australia rivalry, encouraging footy fans to become a Demon for a day and support Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Melbourne will play Brisbane in the first qualifying final for the right to play in the preliminary final a fortnight later and there are still tickets available to the match, starting from $35.

And to encourage ticket sales, the Demons have a number of added incentives aimed at boosting crowd numbers, including giving away 100 red and blue scarfs at the ground.

The club is also offering free large hot chips to the first 500 people who report to the Merchandise Hub inside the Southern Gate who are wearing red and blue.

“The SA Government has boosted stadium capacity to 20,000 with more tickets now available to members and supporters,” the club’s website says.

“Purchase yours via Ticketek and help us turn Adelaide Oval into a sea of red and blue.”

But there are plenty more reasons for South Australians to jump on board the Demon-train, with senior coach Simon Goodwin, and head of development Mark Williams both premiership-winning Croweaters.

And the team’s list boasts its fair share of South Aussies too, including Kysaiah Pickett and Alex Neal-Bullen.

Then there’s simply the depth of talent that footy fans will be able to watch, with this year’s AFL Rising Star, Luke Jackson, and All-Australian captain Max Gawn (one of five Demons selected in this year’s All-Australian team) running around in the red and blue.

The Lions aren’t without their share of reasons to claim SA support either, with the reigning Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neal hailing from the South East, and former Crows’ fan favourite Charlie Cameron also returning to Adelaide Oval.

The Demons and Lions last faced off in round 12, with Melbourne 22-point winners.

Tickets are available via Ticketek.
