Adelaide Original Pancake Kitchen targeted in early morning break-in

An overnight intruder wasn’t after a stack of hot cakes when he forced his way into one of Adelaide’s most iconic eateries – but what he did take, left a sour taste in the owners’ mouths.

Adelaide’s beloved Original Pancake Kitchen has served late-night snacks to generations of locals – but one uninvited guest who stopped by this week wasn’t there for maple syrup.

Instead, CCTV footage shows a determined bandit repeatedly shouldercharging the restaurant’s door before smashing his way inside Wednesday night.

Wearing a sporty ensemble of shorts, a cap, jersey, grey hoodie and gloves – plus what looks like a backpack – the man can be seen kicking and slamming against the door as the deadlock bends under pressure.

After failing to bust it open with his left shoulder, he swaps to his right – eventually breaking the wooden door frame away from the glass panel and forcing his way in.

Once inside the Grenfell St favourite, he calmly walks behind the serving counter and steals the entire cash register.

The Original Pancake Kitchen is co-owned by 7NEWS reporter Mitchell Sariovski and his partner Lauren Bent, who are now left flipping through security footage rather than pancakes.

“Lauren and I have worked extremely hard to make the Original Pancake Kitchen a welcoming, family-friendly place,” Mr Sariovski said.
