7NEWS reporter Mitchell Sariovski reveals he’s bought the Original Pancake Kitchen in the CBD

This TV star is known for chasing crime and finding the stories that matter to SA. Now, he’s taking on a new role as pancake king of Adelaide.

One of South Australia’s oldest and most iconic hospitality venues has changed hands - and you might recognise a familiar face working behind the counter.

Mitchell Sariovski, reporter at 7NEWS Adelaide, has revealed he and partner Lauren Bent purchased the Gilbert Pl venue earlier this year.

“The Original Pancake Kitchen has been a South Australian institution since 1965, and Lauren and I are excited about this venture,” Sariovski told The Advertiser.

“Opening or buying an established restaurant is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. The timing was right, and in the end, we couldn’t resist.”

“We will be launching a new menu, but don’t worry, the classics and favourites aren’t going anywhere,” he said.

“We’ve worked hard to put everything together, and I think our customers are going to love it. Renovations have begun, and customers will notice some changes while still embracing the 60-year heritage that visitors know and love. Our plan is to keep the heritage, but we are giving the shop a much-needed uplift.”

For anyone who’s known to frequent the venue in the early hours of the morning, maybe after a few drinks on nearby Hindley St, Sariovski said the 24 hour dining across weekends will remain the same.

“There is nothing better than having a night out and going to the Pancake Kitchen for a bite to eat before heading home. This is what I used to do,” he said.

“You’re going to see a lot of Lauren at the shop. I will certainly be there to meet, greet, and serve customers—when I’m not on your screen.

“Seven, along with our news director Mark Mooney, have been incredibly supportive of this venture. I couldn’t ask for a better team. They’re like my second family, and I’m sure Mark wants a lifetime supply of pancakes.”

Since taking over, he said he’s had a chance to see how many customers love the venue, and he hopes South Australians and tourists alike will continue supporting the shop they know and love.
