Fishos are in disbelief after a couple of keen anglers waded into croc-notorious waters to wet their line.
This week, photos emerged online which showed two people waist-deep in a pristine body of water with their lines cast.
However, Shoal Bay was revealed to be the location in which the keen fishos had been standing in.
According to the NT government’s crocodile capture statistics, a total of 19 salties had been caught in the Shoal Bay zone so far in 2024.
“Surely this is not normal… Shoal Bay,” the poster said.
“Don’t be a hero and please use your brain if there’s one there.”

In 2018, an angler was spotted chest-deep in the depths of Shoal Bay – a year in which more than 50 crocodiles had been captured in the area.
In April, NT Parks and Wildlife stressed the importance of croc safety after rangers pulled a three-metre croc from the waters of Berry Springs.
“The Crocodile Management Team and Park Rangers are working hard to open swimming areas for the Dry,” NT Parks and Wildlife said.
“However, all waterways in the Top End are croc country.”
