In a reminder to be ‘croc wise’ this dry season, a three metre crocodile lurking within the depths of Berry Springs has been pulled from the waters.

On Anzac Day, a three metre crocodile was removed from a trap at the popular swimming hole, NT Parks and Wildlife confirmed in a statement online.

A photo taken by rangers showed the impressive size of the creature, which was taped and bound as per trapping procedures.

NT Parks and Wildlife said rangers continued to work hard to remove the snappy reptiles.

“The Crocodile Management Team and Park Rangers are working hard to open swimming areas for the Dry,” NT Parks and Wildlife said.

“However, all waterways in the Top End are croc country.”

The reminder comes after the Territory government announced targeted croc culls would resume in 2024 in an effort to protect the safety of swimmers.

Under the new Saltwater Crocodile Management Program 2023-2034, 1200 crocs could be killed each year, up from 300 under the previous plan.

The NT 2024 budget will have $800,000 allocated to crocodile management, and another $1.5m a year has been committed ongoing from 2025-26.
