A man has been hospitalised with head and arm injuries after he was allegedly pelted with metal objects in a brazen daylight attack in Darwin’s CBD.
About 3.05pm on Saturday, police received reports of a group attacking a car and a 28 year-old man in the vicinity of Mitchell and Knuckey streets.
It is understood the man had been driving on Mitchell Street when a woman ran into the path of the vehicle.
Police allege a member of the woman’s group confronted the driver once he parked his car.
As the man walked away, the group allegedly threw bottles at the vehicle.
When the man returned to his car, the group are alleged to have smashed the vehicle’s windows and windscreen with metal trays.
The group are also alleged to have pelted the man with metal objects, causing lacerations to his head and arm.
Security guards arrived at the scene and apprehended one person before police arrived and arrested all four alleged offenders.
The victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.
Four people, one male aged 20 years old, and three women aged 22, 23 and 29 have all been charged with violent conduct, damage to property and assault.
The male has also been charged with assaulting police.
The 22-year-old woman has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on January 18 and the three other alleged offenders have been remanded in custody until January 4 when they will appear in Darwin Local Court.
