Man, 50, charged with horror drug and sexual abuse offences involving children in Mackay

New information can be revealed about a Queensland man who police allege groomed, sexually abused and gave drugs to an underage teen. VIDEO.

Police have released more details about an accused rapist and child groomer who officers allege fed drugs to a teen girl and sexually assaulted her.

Detectives raided the 50-year-old man’s property – a trailer – at Mackay Harbour where he was arrested on alleged horror offending stemming across six months in the region.

It is alleged he supplied dangerous drugs to a girl aged under 16 and sexually assaulted her.

Police will further allege the man groomed a second girl under the age of 16 with the intent to engage in a sexual act.

While executing a search warrant at the man’s property on January 15, officers allegedly seized an amount of dangerous drugs, items and electronic devices.

Following extensive investigations including the examination of devices seized, police will allege the man supplied dangerous drugs to two other children.

Acting Senior Sergeant Glenn Burley said police were committed to protecting children and holding perpetrators to account.

“Offences against children are some of the most despicable, and we commend those who have come forward in this case for their bravery,” the Officer in Charge of Mackay CPIU said.

“If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence, it is never your fault, and you are not alone.

“We encourage you to come forward, there are multiple reporting and support options available to you.

“Anyone who may have any further information in relation to this matter is urged to contact police.”

The man is charged with 22 offences including six counts of supplying dangerous drugs to minor under 16 years and three counts of rape.

He is also charged with two counts each of grooming child under 16 years – facilitate procurement of child to engage in sexual act and use internet to procure children under 16, and one count each of use carriage service to groom another person to make it easier to procure persons under 16 years of age and indecent treatment of child under 16 (procure to commit).

He also faces a number of drug related charges including possess dangerous drugs and possess drug utensils, as well as possess anything used in the commission of a crime and contravene order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

Police allege the charges stem from offences between October 2024 and January 2024, with one allegedly spanning from June 2024 to January 2024.

He appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court twice last week and wanted to apply for bail, but Magistrate Damien Dwyer said he wasn’t prepared to take the application until the man had spoken to a lawyer.

Mr Dwyer said the charges were “very serious matters” and told the court he was not prepared to take a bail application until the man had spoken to a lawyer.

The case was adjourned to Monday.
