The case against a Mackay man accused of creating and possessing AI child abuse material has undergone one of the final steps to move the matter to the district court.
Police allege Caspian Walter Inskip knowingly possessed child exploitation material in the form of computer generated videos on September 13, 2024 at Rural View and making written child exploitation material on December 21, 2023 at Blacks Beach.
The 25 year old, who is from Dalby and Toowoomba regions, was first charged on September 13, 2024 and is on bail for the charges.
His appearance was excused when the matter was briefly mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years jail for anyone convicted.
Because of the nature of the charges this case must be dealt with in the district court.
His lawyer Rob Beamish, of McKay’s Solicitors, said he had sent through the registry committal documents last week and was requesting an adjournment for the documents to be processed.
A registry committal is the administrative process of moving a case from the magistrates court to a higher court like the district court.
Once the registry documents are processed the Office of the Director of Public Processions will take carriage of prosecuting the case and has six months to formally charge Mr Inskip.
This matter will be mentioned again in February to ensure the committal process has occurred.
