A Red Centre businessman is before the courts fighting a charge relating to an alleged non-consensual act, it can be revealed.

The 26-year-old man – who the NT News cannot name due to Northern Territory suppression laws – appeared in Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday, September 6, for a mention hearing.

It was the first hearing for the businessman, who is facing one charge of indecent touching or act.

He did not enter a plea at the hearing, and is currently out on bail.

Supporting him in court was his mother and partner.

Defence lawyer Benjamin Durkin pushed for an adjournment of the case, which was not opposed by prosecutor Aram Ross.

The man appeared before Judge David Bamber, who adjourned the matter to October 4, back at the Alice Springs Local Court.
