A brother and sister duo have banded together in the Red Centre capital to open the town’s newest Thai restaurant, following in the footsteps of their restaurateur mother.
Qeats opened last week in Alice Springs, and is located at 113 Todd St.
The Thai restaurant offers a “full service” dinner.
Run by brother and sister Jojo and Winwin Pethsri, Mr Pethsri said while it was their first crack at running their own restaurant, they came from strong pedigree – with their mother formerly running Nong’s Thai restaurant.
The name Qeats is an amalgamation of “quality” and “eats”, Mr Pethsri said, with the menu having something for everyone.
The dinner menu, however, is “full Thai”.
“So our breakfast menu, we pretty much do bacon, eggs, eggs benny,” he said.
“Lunch is a mix between Western culture and Thai culture.
“Then our dinner is more like a full Thai, where the customer will have tables, sit down, we will serve them – full service.”
With a busy first week at an end, Mr Pethsri said it had not been without its challenges
“It’s a new kitchen, so things sometimes don’t turn out the way they’re supposed to,” he said.
“The hardest part is probably staffing, and paranoia about (getting) a break in.”
While only offering in-house service at the moment, Mr Pethsri said as the business grows they might start offering takeaway options.
