A burst water main has caused water to flood over a road and into houses south of Brisbane with some residents being offered temporary accommodation.

Footage has emerged of a burst water main flooding Plantain Rd, Shailer Park.

Logan residents reported the burst water main appeared to have exploded and scattered debris all over the major road.

Melissa Cameron said debris was all over the road including cement chunks.

“See the footpath, that was an explosion, concrete pieces everywhere,” she said.

“The poor household.”

Shailer Park resident Graham Henry told Seven News he and his family were about to go on holiday when they realised their driveway had been inundated with water.

The water main explosion left a gaping hole just outside the Henry residence, forcing gallons of water to flood into their home.

Kase Tango, a neighbour to the Henry family, said the sound of the water main exploding was like a “nuclear bomb”.

“I didn’t want to go to school, and I was hoping the school got flooded,” he told Seven News.

SEQ Water has arranged emergency accommodation for the Henry family.

Dee Robbins got caught out by the fast-flowing stream of water.

“Got caught in it when the water was racing down the hill towards the library,” Ms Robbins said.

“It was like a river racing down the hill and quite deep in places and debris over the road.

“Please don’t drive a low car.”

According to local resident Damian Gonzalez, wash is also flooding houses along the road.

“Might want to avoid Plantain Rd for a while!! From the top heading towards the Hyperdome,” Mr Gonzalez said.

“Please drive slowly as wash is still flooding houses.”

The vision attracted a host of comments from local residents online.

“Must get the kayak out,” one person commented.

“We live just up from you and wondered what caused it... those poor houses,” another person commented.

“Blimey! Hope those with homes there are OK and that this gets fixed ASAP,” a different person commented.
In a statement, Seqwater advised that it was responding to the incident, with crews “working around the clock”, with temporary accommodation for impacted residents.

“Seqwater has isolated the pipe and emergency contractors have mobilised on-site to assess the situation and required repairs,” the statement read.

“Seqwater is also offering assistance to impacted residents, including temporary accommodation.

“Repairs are expected to commence this afternoon and continue into the weekend.

“Partial lane or road closures may be experienced during this time.

“Seqwater crews are working around the clock to resolve the incident.”

Seqwater said there was currently no impacts to the local water supply.

“Seqwater is monitoring local reservoir levels and operating the SEQ Water Grid, including the Mount Crosby East and West Bank Water Treatment Plants, to manage supply continuity,” it read.

“Through the SEQ Water Grid, treated drinking water can be moved around the region as required via 600 kilometres of interconnected pipelines.

“Seqwater is working with the Water Service Providers in the area.”
