Unmarked tow truck steals vehicle in broad daylight

Thieves using an unmarked tow truck have stolen a Holden Commodore in broad daylight from the Coles car park south of Brisbane.

The incident occurred at Grand Plaza Shopping Centre at Browns Plains between 12pm and 1.40pm on Tuesday.

Vision of the incident shows a Holden Commodore attached to the rear of an unmarked tow truck and being driven away from the scene.

In the process of making their getaway, the offenders knocked off a bumper bar from the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle, Mako Shanks, told The Courier-Mail she came back from shopping to find that her prized 2016 Holden Commodore Redline was nowhere to be seen.

“I came back from the shops, I started pushing the remote to the car, a gentleman asked him if I was alright and I said I think somebody stole my car,” Ms Shanks said.

“I took a deep breath went back into the shopping centre and asked for security.”

She later found out that a member of the public had recorded the ordeal on his phone.

“[The man who filmed it] he used to be a tow truck driver and he saw what was happening with the tow truck, he knew that there was something wrong, so he started videoing it,” she said.

“As soon as the guy spotted him, he jumped back in his truck and that’s when he hit the pole with the car.”

She went onto unleash at the thief in an expletive-laden rant.

“He’s nothing but a c--t and he should get a f--king job,” she said.

“F--king low life.

“He’s just ripped into my car, what an asshole.”

Ms Shanks pleaded with members of the public to be vigilant when out and about.

“Please watch out for your cars when you park it in the car park and watch out for those tow trucks,” she said.

Ms Shanks said she would love to have her car returned to her.

“It’s a beautiful car, it’s the type of car that you drive on the Bathurst race course,” she said.

“She was our pride and joy, she made us feel on top of the world, and gave you that feeling of freedom.”
