An Australian influencer has stunned her followers by revealing her usual $25,000 monthly spend amid plans to introduce a strict budget. .
But Veruca Salt, a Queensland influencer with a fanbase of more than one million people on TikTok, says she is participating in a “no spend” challenge for January, hoping to cut back her outlays to under $6000.
In a video posted on social media last week, the influencer explained that a good portion of her budget goes toward subscriptions.
“The first thing I’m starting to realise are subscriptions are f--king me up. I have random ones, like Shutterstock, that must have been some random little trend that I signed up to see some AI picture of me and then it was taking $12.10 out of my account every month, but now it is cancelled, so all good,” she said.
Her total spend for January 2 was $110.44, with Veruca admitting she was struggling to hit her budget by January 3.
“I went to breakfast with my friends (on January 5), not very good of my no spend month. Shouldn’t have done that but I didn’t get a drink, I only got breakfast so technically I save money,” she joked.
“I spent $86.75 at Woolworths and $30 for Coles, that’s my groceries for the week. My rent is $950 for the week so I had to pay that, 10 cents on the tram, $5.50 at Woolworths because I forgot to take my f---ing chicken out of the freezer for my meal prep so I had to buy another chicken breast for that and $53 on a vape.
“I paid $91.50 for a new sample for my business, I have pesto in my meal plan for this week so I ordered my favourite pesto from Harris Farm, so I spent $14.87 on f---ing pesto but worth it, these two Apple bills, no idea what they are.”
Her largest purchase for the week was the adoption fee for a kitten.
“Not very good to do in my no spend month but it’s fine, I love him very much so it’s worth it,” she said.
She then calculated a total spend of $1,967.37 over the span of the week and that she should have spent $541.12 less to be on track with her budget.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being a gym girl, it’s that if you f-ck up, just keep it pushing, you know, don’t give up the next day, you can try again,” she said.
Commenters were bewildered with Veruca’s budget for the month.
“You spent more in days than I have in a whole month,” one commenter said.
“Blue card is a tax write off … so girl math it’s free,” another commenter joked.
In a video response to the comments, Veruca revealed her monthly budget is usually much higher.
“This is so bad, but in a month I would usually spend about $25,000. I used to probably spend $80,000 or $50,000 or $100,000 per month. I just want to get that down even more,” she said.
Breaking down her monthly budget, the influencer said she realises her budget does sound like an “insane number”.
“I pay $3,800 a month in rent, my phone bill is $30 a month, I pay $90 a month for Wi-Fi, I pay $80 a month for my gym, I budgeted $800 a month for my groceries, I estimated $100 per month on subscriptions but that’s not looking like the case.
“I spend about $200 per month on my cats, litter and food. I budgeted $200 a month on travel so that means I can get one Uber and take the tram everyday.
“I budgeted $100 per week on vapes because I spend probably $50 on a vape every five days so that’s $400 per month on vapes.
“Those are all the things I have to pay for no matter what. I can quit vaping but I’m not doing that. For a total of $5,705, yes, that’s my no spend month.”
