PUBLIC service jobs will be lost through natural attrition as the returned NT Government shrinks the number of departments from 15 to 11, saving an estimated $5 million.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced the restructure on Monday saying having fewer government departments would lead to swifter decision making.
He confirmed jobs would be lost as part of the move but said no-one would be sacked.
“I anticipate that will be done essentially through attrition as you go through what that organisational restructure might be over a period of time,” he said.

“So it wouldn’t be overnight, so staff, if you’re out there, don’t be worried, it’s about essentially creating better decision making through those departments and, as always when you do things like this, there will be some corporate savings efficiencies but it’s not being done for that purpose, it’s being done to better support Government decision making and getting results for Territorians.”
